Each January, global and business leaders gather in Davos, Switzerland to discuss issues and initiatives of worldwide impact. This year’s theme ‘Cooperation in a Fragmented World’ highlighted, among other topics, the importance of cybersecurity.
Citing an expanding threat landscape and increasingly sophisticated attacks “experts predict that 2023 will be a consequential year for cybersecurity.” The heightened awareness of potential attacks are coupled with calls for organizations of all sizes to strengthen their cybersecurity posture.
Both leaders at Davos and the Cybersecurity Infrastructure Agency (CISA) note that both consumer data acquisition and business disruption are equally attractive goals. They also note potential vulnerabilities in organizations with a place in the supply chain of larger organizations or have technology-rich ecosystems without a strong cybersecurity resource in place.
While our world may be fragmented, it is also increasingly online. In our interconnected world, an organization’s cybersecurity stretches beyond its own digital ecosystem and into that of its entire supply chain. For critical manufacturing and infrastructure providers, having a strong security posture has far-reaching implications.
When global and industry experts alike are warning about a tumultuous year of cyber-attacks, it’s easy to get overwhelmed by the effort to strengthen cybersecurity. But starting small, with measures like educating your team on cybersecurity basics, or better understanding your technology and where it interfaces outside of your organization, can improve your posture and foster a more robust strategy.
Cybersecurity is a global problem that will take global efforts for meaningful change. However, individuals and organizations alike can take steps to improve. If your organization is curious about how to assess and improve your cybersecurity posture, contact us to get started.
